StorageNetworking.org is a non-profit initiative managed by the Alfred P. Sloan Foundation Information Storage Industry Center (ISIC) at the University of California, San Diego (UCSD). ISIC is a social science research center that studies the business dynamics of the data storage industry.

StorageNetworking.org's mission is to support the users of data storage technology by facilitating the creation of local and regional Storage Networking User Groups (or SNUGs). These SNUGs enable individuals involved in this fast-moving industry to exchange information with their peers and other knowledge experts. The initiative has developed an online resource portal that provides access to user group resources, industry-specific educational opportunities, academic research, and news and information.

StorageNetworking.org-affiliated SNUGs are managed by local users in accordance with standard bylaws, and favor no particular vendor, product, or solution. Meetings are open to end users, students, researchers, training organizations, and all those interested in discussing the effective application of data storage technology in a respectful, education-focused environment.

SNUGs have been formed in over two dozen cities around the world. The initiative continues to encourage applications from data storage users worldwide who want to start their own local SNUGs.

As an independent initiative backed by leading universities, StorageNetworking.org seeks to bring together academic and industry resources and data storage end users in a trusted forum that enables users to gain a greater understanding of their mutual challenges, as well as the available solutions.
