Wendy Betts
Hewitt Associates
Wendy Betts is the Manager of the Distributed Systems Storage Management group at Hewitt Associates, a global HR outsourcing and consulting firm. Her responsibilities include Storage Area Network and Network Attached Storage, as well as all of the tape backups in all of Hewitt's global locations. Wendy graduated from Northern Illinois University with a degree in Operations Management Information Systems. She also attended Keller Graduate School of Management where she earned her MBA with an emphasis in Finance. Wendy has worked at Hewitt Associates since 1998, where she started working in the Human Resource Outsourcing area as a systems analyst. She then transitioned to Information Systems and worked as a Financial Analyst to calculate the computer usage charges for end-users. While in this role she was assigned a project to calculate the computer storage costs for the firm, which led her into managing a program to determine the storage strategy.

Paul Ferraro
Qualcomm
Paul Ferraro serves as the Storage Manager for QUALCOMM Inc. In this role, Paul oversees QUALCOMM's data management environment including SAN, NAS, AFS, Backup & Recovery, and Replication. Paul is also currently responsible for the Messaging & Identity Management environments. During his 14 year career at QUALCOMM, he has served as a UNIX Systems Administrator, Manager of Enterprise Systems, Manager of IT Security, and most recently as Manager of Servers, Operating Systems, and Storage. Paul has been instrumental in building the storage infrastructure to support QUALCOMM's growing and diverse corporate needs.

Marty LeFebvre
Nielsen Media Research
Marty began working at Nielsen Media Research in 1984 as a BAL Programmer/Analyst. In the eighteen years that followed, Marty moved into the PC and Open Systems arena, working on development teams for data collection and data delivery. He was a member of the first software development team at Nielsen Media Research to use the Windows 3.10 platform. When Local Area Networking began in the early 90's, Marty built and maintained workgroup servers, supporting software development teams. As Nielsen Media Research moved into the Client-Server arena, Marty left application development for systems, joining the team that built the first Nielsen Media Research enterprise LAN. That was followed by managing the introduction of enterprise mail service, Unix servers, TCP/IP networking, Internet connectivity, and TVRatings.com, Nielsen Media Research's first Internet domain registration. Currently, Marty's role at Nielsen Media Research is to work closely with IT, the business units, and our CIO to determine what technologies can be leveraged in support of our business needs. Recent work includes the development of a hardware strategy for both servers and storage that will support nTier architecture, increase service levels, and reduce support costs. In 2003 the major focus has been the development and implementation of a SAN strategy, and the formation of a dedicated storage services team.

He has held senior roles with several leading IT providers and market research firms including: Gartner, DEC, Giga & EMC. As Editor-in-Chief of Storage magazine and Editorial Director of the TechTarget Storage Media Group, Mark Schlack sets the editorial direction for Storage, SearchStorage.com and the Storage Decisions conferences. Schlack is an award-winning journalist and editor with more than 20 years' experience in media. Schlack held the position of editor in chief of BYTE from 1995 to 1998, during which time BYTE served a loyal readership of 500,000 IT professionals and power computer users. Before joining TechTarget, he was Vice President and Editorial Director for ITWorld.com. Under his tenure, ITWorld.com received a bronze medal for "Best Online Site" from the American Society of Business Publication Editors (ASBPE). Prior to ITWorld.com, Schlack set the editorial direction for EarthWeb as vice president of worldwide content. Schlack has received numerous industry accolades, including the prestigious Jessie H. Joel White
Allstate Corporation
Joel is a business technologist for Allstate Insurance Co., a personal financial services company and the nation's largest publicly held personal lines insurer. Joel is one of several "solutioneers" and change agents in the Enterprise Server Infrastructure division at Allstate and concentrates his time identifying IT business process enhancements and technologies that bring value to Allstate's many business units. Joel is currently responsible for providing strategic direction for storage networking and developing best practices for Allstate's reference architectures. Joel has authored several white papers and technology briefs related to storage and SANs for Allstate.
Shortly after joining Allstate, Joel was assigned to develop Allstate's enterprise storage strategy. Before joining Allstate, Joel held various IT positions with a leading Storage Service Provider, national retail chain, heavy equipment manufacturer, management consulting, distribution and engineering organizations. Joel is a member of the Storage Networking Industry Association and serves on the customer advisory councils of several leading storage companies.

Laurence Whittaker, Supervisor, Enterprise Storage Management, Hudson's Bay Company, has over twenty-three years experience in Information Technology, mainly in IT Infrastructure Planning, Performance, Capacity and Storage Management. ÊHe was honoured with the 2004 Storage Networking Industry Association Leadership Award and Distinguished Service Award. Clod Barrera
IBM
Clodoaldo Barrera, Distinguished Engineer, is the Director of Systems Strategy at IBM in San Jose, California. His responsibilities include development strategy for IBM's disk and tape subsystems, storage management software, and SAN and NAS solutions. Prior to his current position, Mr. Barrera was the development executive for IBM's serial storage product development, and for future storage systems development. Before joining IBM's Storage Division, Mr. Barrera was a programmer and a development manager in printer product development in San Jose, Tucson, Arizona, and Boulder, Colorado. He has also served for two years on the IBM Corporate Development Staff in Armonk, New York. Mr. Barrera is a founding member of the Storage Networking Industry Association, and served as a Director and Secretary of the Board for five years. He has also served as a board member of the Fibre Channel Association. Mr. Barrera is a graduate of Stanford University, and holds a Bachelors Degree in Mathematics and a Masters Degree in Electrical Engineering. He is also a member of the IEEE Computer Society and of the ACM.

Vincent Franceschini

Vincent Franceschini is the Senior Director of Future Technologies for Hitachi Data Systems, reporting directly to HDS Corporation's Chief Technology Officer. In this role he is responsible for defining the future directions of HDS Data Networking solutions on a worldwide basis and for selecting the key future technologies and solutions that HDS will market. Franceschini is also Hitachi Data Systems' primary representative to leading Industry Associations work groups such as the Storage Networking Industry Association (SNIA). Board director of SNIA since 2000, Franceschini has been elected Vice-Chairman of the SNIA board of Directors in 2002. SNIA is delivering architectures, education and services that will propel Storage Networking solutions into the broader worldwide market. Franceschini is also the Chairman of SNIA International, driving the worldwide expansion of SNIA. Franceschini has also been a serving board member of the FCIA-Europe between 1999 and 2002, driving the integration of Fibre Channel throughout the European Storage Networking market. In his previous role at Hitachi Data Systems, Franceschini was Storage Networking Solutions Manager, responsible for determining the European strategic direction of the company's storage and fibre channel products, reporting to the European storage division and the Japanese and US R&D laboratories. Prior to joining Hitachi Data Systems in 1995, Vincent Franceschini developed real-time client/server Computer-Integrated Manufacturing applications for Ford Motor Company. Franceschini began his career in technology at Digital Equipment Corporation as a software engineer. He received his "Ingénieur Informatique" degree in Artificial Intelligence & Industrial Applications from a leading IT University in Paris, France.

Deborah Johnson
Infinity I/O
Ms. Johnson joined Infinity I/O in August 2001 as Chief Operating Officer after 20 years at Hewlett-Packard, where she served in various senior management and marketing positions in the areas of networking, software, computers and services. In March 2002 Ms. Johnson was appointed President and CEO of Infinity I/O. Before joining Infinity I/O, Ms. Johnson served as Director of E-Services for North America at HP Consulting where she led the development of a new line of service, established partnerships and alliances to support this service and evaluated acquisition opportunities. Prior to this position, Ms. Johnson led global services planning for HP Consulting and was responsible for overall program management for service development. Before that assignment, Ms. Johnson held various Marketing Manager positions in the Enterprise Computing Group and the Networking Group of HP. In that capacity, Ms. Johnson had responsibility for marketing and development of new technology and product strategy, acquisition and launch of new businesses, and product planning. In addition, Ms. Johnson has Finance and Accounting experience. Ms. Johnson holds a MA in Communication and an MBA in Finance from the University of Colorado, Boulder and a BA in Communication and Psychology from the University of Northern Colorado.

Warren Smith

Warren Smith, HP's Senior Manager for Storage Industry Association Engagements is responsible for HP's overall participation in Storage Industry collaboration. He is also the Chairman of the SNIA Marketing Committee, and is a member of the SNIA Board of Directors. Mr. Smith has been focused on enterprise storage since 1994 and has held a variety of management and marketing positions. He has broad experience in industry efforts targeting the interoperability of Enterprise Storage Systems. Mr. Smith is a frequent speaker at industry conferences on subjects such as business continuity, standards, and customer requirements. Mr. Smith holds a Bachelor of Science degree in General Engineering from the United States Air Force Academy and a Master of Science degree in Operations Research from the Air Force Institute of Technology. Prior to joining Compaq/HP, he was the Founder and Vice-President for Strategic Planning for Storage Area Networks, Inc. (SANZ).

John Webster
Data Mobility Group
John is responsible for directing Data Mobility Group's ongoing research and analysis in Data and Storage Management. Prior to founding Data Mobility Group, John was Senior Analyst and IT Advisor for Illuminata, Inc., where he established and developed Illuminata's storage-related market research and analysis practice. John is a member of the Storage Networking Industry Association (SNIA) Storage Management Forum, and is a featured speaker at industry events and conferences, including Storage Networking World, Storage Management, Storage Decisions, and COMDEX. He is the author of numerous articles and white papers and is a regular contributor to InfoStor magazine and SNW Online. Prior to Illuminata, John held the positions of Vice President, Marketing, for Storage Computer Corporation; Director of Computing Research at the Yankee Group; and Senior Analyst at the Clipper Group and International Data Corporation. He is the Chairman of the Greater Boston Regional Computer Measurement Group and serves as liaison to SNIA's Consumer Executive Council. John is a graduate of Boston University.

Sean Derrington
Symantec
Sean Derrington is responsible for Symantec's storage management products in the Data Center Management Group. His responsibilities include Veritas Storage Foundation, Veritas Storage Foundation for Databases, Storage Foundation Management Server, Veritas Cluster File System, Veritas Volume Replicator, and CommandCentral Storage for Unix, Linux, and Windows platforms. Sean joined Symantec with the Veritas acquisition. Prior to joining Veritas, He was Senior Program Director of META Group's Server Infrastructure Strategies. During his 8 years at META Group, he was the lead consultant and analyst covering the storage and storage management market. Sean earned a B.S. in Material Science and Engineering and a B.S. in Engineering and Public Policy, both from Carnegie Mellon University.

Ryan Klein
QLogic
Ryan Klein joined QLogic in 1999, and has taken on numerous roles within the company. He led design verification test efforts for QLogic SAN products for major OEM customers. Ryan has also led technical marketing activities, including fostering technology relationships from within the strategic partner base and the creation of QLogic Press, encompassing interoperability and overall SAN deployment. Ryan has 11 years of experience in the storage industry and currently manages the global Solutions Architecture team. He and his team are responsible for working directly with Global 2000 IT organizations. The team provides guidance to users on the deployment of storage area networks and insight into future storage technologies. Prior to joining QLogic, Ryan worked for Unisys within the engineering organization of the storage solutions division. Ryan is also involved with several industry organizations, including the Fibre Channel Industry Organization (FCIA), the Storage Networking Industry Association (SNIA) and Blade Systems Alliance (Blades).

Tom Clark
Brocade
Tom Clark is a resident SAN evangelist for Brocade, and represents Brocade in industry associations, conducts seminars and tutorials at conferences and trade shows, promotes Brocade storage networking solutions, and acts as a customer liaison. A noted author and industry advocate of storage networking technology, he is a board member of the Storage Networking Industry Association (SNIA) and has held chair positions for SNIA customer initiatives and the SNIA Interoperability Committee. Clark has published hundreds of articles and white papers on storage networking and is the author of Designing Storage Area Networks, Second Edition (Addison-Wesley 2003) and IP SANs: A Guide to iSCSI, iFCP and FCIP Protocols for Storage Area Networks (Addison-Wesley 2001), and Storage Virtualization: Technologies for Simplifying Data Storage and Management (Addison-Wesley 2005). Prior to joining Brocade, Clark was Director of Solutions and Technologies for McDATA Corporation and the Director of Technical Marketing for Nishan Systems, the innovator of storage over IP technology. As a liaison between marketing, engineering, and customers, he has focused on customer education and defining features that ensure productive deployment of SANs. With more than 20 years experience in the IT industry, Clark has held technical marketing and systems consulting positions with Vixel Corporation and other data communications companies.

William E. Ayen
University of Colorado at Colorado Springs
Dr. Ayen has spent over 30 years in military, industry, and academic positions where he has applied his strong technical, managerial, and academic background to development of information systems and academic curricula. Bill currently is the Director of the Network Information and Space Security Center (NISSC) at the University of Colorado at Colorado Springs. The NISSC was established in 2002 to focus university resources on supporting military, community, and industry needs in homeland security and homeland defense. He also teaches Information Systems courses in the College of Business and Administration. Previously at UCCS he was Director of External Programs in the College of Engineering and Applied Science and taught graduate software engineering courses in the Department of Computer Science. Prior to coming to UCCS, he was Vice President for a national systems integration company, was Dean of Computer Science, Vice President of Academic Affairs, and Chancellor at Colorado Technical University, and completed 23 years of Air Force service as the Associate Dean for Resources at the US Air Force Academy. Dr. Ayen has a PhD in Computer Science from The Ohio State University, a MS in Computer Science from the University of Missouri at Rolla, and a BS in Chemistry from the University of Wisconsin at Platteville.

Randal Burns
Johns Hopkins University
Randal Burns is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Computer Science in the Whiting School of Engineering at Johns Hopkins University. He is the Director of the Hopkins Storage Systems Research Lab. His research studies parallel and distributed computing with a focus on Storage Systems and Distributed Data Management. This includes concurrency control, fault tolerance, secure systems, network addressable I/O devices, data placement, and I/O scheduling. Randal was formerly a research staff member in Storage Systems at the Department of Computer Science at IBM's Almaden Research Center in San Jose. He has also been a lecturer and research fellow at the Department of Computer Science at the University of California at Santa Cruz. He is a member of the ACM, USENIX, and the IEEE. Randal earned his PhD in 2000 and MS in 1997 from the Department of Computer Science at the University of California at Santa Cruz in 2000. He earned his BS degree from the Department of Geophysics at Stanford University in 1993.

Cole Camplese
Penn State University
Cole W. Camplese serves as the Director of the IST Solutions Institute in The Pennsylvania State University's School of Information Sciences and Technology. His primary responsibility is the development and implementation of the strategic direction for the Institute. In this role, he directs all aspects of online courseware development, including process management and strategic relationships for both educational and training audiences, the oversight of the creation of innovative academic programs and technology tools that extend their reach. His background includes a Masters of Science in Instructional Technology from Bloomsburg University and a Bachelor of Science in Psychology from West Virginia University. Mr. Camplese's research interests include process and project management for courseware development, as well as the Information Technology tools that enable both. He has extensive experience as a consultant, instructional designer, instructional technologist and multimedia developer. Camplese is a published author who has presented practical solutions and research at regional and national events and conferences. Mr. Camplese has a MS in Instructional Technology from Bloomsburg University and a BS in Psychology from West Virginia University.

Thomas M. Ruwart
University of Minnesota
Tom Ruwart has over 25 years of experience in the computer and storage industry starting in 1977 with Control Data Corporation. His experience spans hardware and software from IBM mainframe disk drives to large supercomputer-class storage systems. Aside from Control Data, Tom has worked for a start-up company, Edge Computer Corporation, The Minnesota Supercomputer Center, the University of Minnesota Laboratory for Computational Science and Engineering, and Ciprico. Tom is currently at the University of Minnesota's Digital Technology Center (DTC) coordinating the formation of the DTC Intelligent Storage Consortium (DISC) as well as consulting on several government-funded large-scale storage projects. As part of this work Tom is actively involved in the Storage Networking Industry Association (SNIA) Object-based Storage Device (OSD) Technical Working Group (TWG) and the IEEE Mass Storage Systems Technical Committee. All of these activities are focused on driving the research, development, and deployment of intelligent storage technologies, applications, and markets.

John R. Williams
Massachusetts Institute of Technology
John Williams is Director of the Intelligent Engineering Systems Laboratory at MIT that specializes in developing smart infrastructure systems. He was previously Co-Director of MIT's System Design and Management Program, that focuses on the architecting of large-scale systems. He is currently doing research on large scale web-based information systems based on Grid Computing architectures for Microsoft's I-Campus program, on web services for real-time location systems for Motorola, and on GRID computing for knowledge management for the Cambridge MIT-Initiative. He teaches two graduate courses on Web System Architecting and on Modern Software Development and is the author of systems used at MIT that now hold nearly one million pages and serve some 14,000 students per week. Williams has lectured widely in the UK and Japan on the role of IT in E-Education. He holds a MA in Physics from Oxford University, a MS in Physics from UCLA and a PhD in Numerical Methods from the University of Wales, Swansea. He has published two books and over 100 journal and conference papers.

Khai-Leong Yong
Data Storage Institute, Singapore
Khai-Leong Yong is the Division Manager of Network Storage Technology Division of Data Storage Institute (DIS), Singapore, a national research laboratory. KL leads a team of developers and engineers on the research of next-generation Storage Networking technologies. He has 10 years of diverse experience in the storage and networking industry, and has held key development roles in Allied Telesyn, Conner Peripheral and Apple Computer. His previous position prior to joining DSI involved design and development of Ethernet based LAN devices. KL received his Electrical & Electronics Engineering degree from the National University of Singapore and his postgraduate degree from Nanyang Technological University, majoring in communication software and network.
